Zoo Negara

- Backdated Post -

Another backdated post of our outing in end August 2010. We took the boys to Zoo Negara despite reading some bad reviews. The boys were excited, and we reached just before 10am. The weather was quite good, despite a slight drizzle in the morning. We paid RM20 per ticket for adults, and RM6 for Shan Leo. If you want to visit the Insects & Butterfly Park, which is inside the zoo, your ticket price will be RM25 and RM9 each. It is so expensive!!!

The zoo is seriously poorly maintained. Bushes are unkept and over-grown. Cages are smelly & dirty. Animals are half-dead. And, many more.

The animal show was lousy. And, I almost fell asleep watching it.

If you want to feed the giraffes or elephants, you need to pay. We paid RM3 for these leafs, to feed the giraffes.

The only thing worth paying in the zoo was this giraffe cap. We bought it in one of the many gift shops inside the zoo. I think it was RM3 or RM5 only. Shan Rae was not interested in the cap.

There is really nothing much to see in the zoo. In fact, there are quite a number of empty cages which is filled with overgrown bushes. And, it is really scary! Cause anytime, there could be an animal that jump out from the bushes!!!

Our last stop was the small petting zoo, which is nothing great. We left the zoo before 1pm and head for lunch.

All I can say, don't waste your time, money & effort to visit Zoo Negara for now.

Kumon Advanced Student Honour Roll 2010

This is the first time we are attending such a big scale Kumon Advanced Student Honour Roll (ASHR) ceremony. It is held at the Putrajaya International Convention Center (PICC). In fact, this is supposed to be held last year. But, it was cancelled due to H1N1, and we have to make do with a simple ceremony at TTDI community hall.

Too bad that mummy is not able to join us and witness her little boy receiving his award. Hence, daddy came with us to represent mummy. We reached PICC at about 9am, and quickly took Shan Leo's tag.

Shan Leo will be receiving his Gold medal for Kumon Maths this time. The ASHR Gold awards were to recognize students for completing Kumon lessons that are 3 years ahead of what they are studying in school. This means, Shan Leo is actually studying Standard 3 Mathematics now!

I was told that this ceremony is for Klang Valley achievers only. And, there is a total of 3,000 plus students receiving their ASHR awards this year!!!

You see so many proud parents around with their cameras & video cams. The organizers have arranged for a professional photographer to capture each & every student who goes on stage to collect the award. Hence, the parents (or me) don't need to rush to the stage to take photos :D

It was really a long wait & queue for the kids. They probably stand for an hour or more for their turns to go on stage. Shan Leo is so bored. In fact, a lot of the parents left the moment their kids collected the award. Hence, the hall was getting emptier as each minute passed. We stayed till the end of the ceremony.

While waiting, we went to take photos. I am glad that I managed to take this photo *phew* It was really a challenge to take a decent photo because so many other students were standing right in front of the backdrop :(

We think this is probably the last year Shan Leo will be receiving ASHR award. Kumon have revised their ASHR grading. You need to be 5 years ahead of your studies in order to qualify for gold :(

Right now, I am already seeing how Shan Leo struggling with long divisions. And, soon he will be starting Standard 1. I really dunno how the boy gonna cope.

Butterfly, Orchids & Planets

- Backdated Post -

This is such a backdated post. We took the boys to the Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park, Orchid Garden and The National Planetarium sometime end of August. The boys had a great time even though the places are not so great.

Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park

Our first stop was Butterfly Park. The moment the boys step into the park, they were so excited. They were busy looking for butterflies.

We have to "pause" the boys action for a while to take photos :D

Can you see their excitement & joy when they found a butterfly?

Shan Leo kept asking me to take photos of all the butterflies. And, it is really not easy. Most of the time, the butterfly will fly away the moment we go near them.

Anyway, the few shots I have is good enough to satisfy the boys.

Shan Rae even caught a poor butterfly. Without hesitate, I took a photo of Shan Rae holding it. Then, we keep telling the boys that they are not supposed to hold the butterfly *hehe*

Since Shan Rae caught a butterfly, Shan Leo also wanted to do the same. We keep telling him no. But, the moment we turned our backs, he went and caught this :( Hence, I took a photo of Shan Leo with the butterfly...

In fact, this Butterfly Park is really small. If you just walk around the place without stopping to look at the butterflies, you can come out from the park in less than 10 minutes :( Ticket price is not cheap (I think its RM8 for adults), and they even charge me RM1 to bring in my camera. Anyway, this will be our first & also last visit to the butterfly park. I would not recommend anyone to go.

Orchid Garden

Next, we went to check out the Orchid Garden. Somehow its free, cause there is no one manning the ticket booth. This is also another disappointment. We could hardly see any orchids except what you see in this photo. The only place you can find lots of orchids are the shops inside Orchid Garden :(

We left this place shortly and head for lunch at the Hornbill Cafe in KL Bird Park. Food was ok, but a little pricey. Shan Leo was bugging us to go inside the Bird Park. But, it is already late afternoon. It will be too rush to cover the park.

The National Planetarium

Instead, we went to check out The National Planetarium. The distance of the car park and the entrance is really far. You have to walk up a long flight of stairs, and we have to carry the stroller!!! Hence, if you have a baby and needs to bring the stroller, think twice before you go.

The place is under renovation. We only knew after we paid for the tickets :( There is really nothing much to see there.

But, the boys enjoyed playing with the mock-up spaceship capsule.

Well, the only attraction there would be their daily shows (short movies) inside the space theatre. The theatre has a dome shaped screen, and it is really nice to watch.

I guess we won't be visiting any of these 3 attractions again. Hmm... unless, there is a major revamp of the place :D

Potential Smoker?

Is this a sign of a potential smoker?

Shan Rae has been observing his KK smoking, and when we asked him what is KK doing, he will show us KK smoking actions *sigh* He also thinks KK smells good!!! *shake head* Somehow, we feel he will pick up smoking really young *sob sob*

We really don't understand why Shan Rae is interested in smoking??? My dad is the only one who smokes. And, no one else in our family or relatives smokes... Hence, we find it hard to believe the influence is so strong!!!

4 Years of Kumon Effort!

It has been 4 years since Shan Leo started Kumon. And, the journey ain't easy for him and also mummy. It is a daily effort and also struggle. The Kumon worksheets is much more harder as Shan Leo progress. My 6 year old boy is doing the long divisions now!!!

All I can say is, the awards Shan Leo won comes with lots of hard work, sweat, tears and screaming (from both mummy & son)!!! Yes, you hear it right! Screaming!!! *ha ha*

I hope Shan Leo will grow up and appreciate his Kumon foundation.

Shan Leo, we are really proud of you! We hope you will continue to excel in your studies!

Legend of the Guardians

Shan Leo is always a happy boy when its movie day. Last Saturday, we went to watch Legend of the Guardians: The Owl of Ga'Hoole. This time, its just the both of us cause I think it will be good to spend some time with just Shan Leo alone.

We went for the earliest show, 11.40am because Shan Leo has to attend a birthday party at KizSports & Gym at 3.00pm. Both of us enjoyed the movie a lot.

Legend of the Guardians is about a young owl named Soren, who is the hero in this movie. Here is a short synopsis of the movie that I picked up from some movie sites.

Soren, a young barn owl, is kidnapped by owls of St. Aggie’s, ostensibly an orphanage, where owlets are brainwashed into becoming soldiers. He and his new friends escape to the island of Ga’Hoole, to assist its noble, wise owls who fight the army being created by the wicked rulers of St. Aggie’s.

I will definitely recommend this movie to friends. The sound track is also quite nice. Now, Shan Leo want us to get him the movie DVD, so that he can watch it again and again!

After this movie, Shan Leo listed another 4 movies he wanna watch - Alpha & Omega (showing now), Sammy's Adventures: The Secret Passage (coming soon), MegaMind (4th Nov) and Rapunzel (25th Nov).

I am still thinking if I should bring Shan Leo for the first 2 movies because mummy says his exam is around the corner. Besides, October is a busy month for us. Our weekends need to be blocked for Shan Leo's Kumon ASHR ceremony, kindergarten concert, piano recital and KK's big birthday dinner. On top of that, I am also extremely busy at work *sigh* I really need a magic wand to breeze through October...

Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore

- Backdated Post -

We watched Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore at GSC Mid Valley sometime early last month. I was surprised that GSC Mid Valley revised their rates again. Adult ticket price is RM12 now :(

Anyway, I want to share about the blunder I almost did. The boys were excited, and they kept asking me what time the movie starts and when are we going to the cinema. As, we hurried to the cinema and took our seats, I noticed that the people were looking at us. I also find it weird that the seating arrangement was different from what I had chosen earlier. Hence, I walk out of the cinema, just to re-confirm if we are in the right cinema. Somehow, my instincts was right! I took the boys to the wrong cinema, and we almost ended up watching Piranhas *hehe*

Glad that I realised it early, and don't need to move the boys out in the dark. And, we still managed to view all the upcoming movie previews *phew* Overall, the movie is ok and the boys enjoyed it :D

Shan Leo & His First Kite

Shan Leo is so happy to receive his first kite from KK. Shan Rae is still too young to appreciate the kite. Hence, when Shan Leo got his kite, he was all excited to fly it!

Since we have no idea where to bring him to fly the kite, the boy was happy "flying" the kite his way.

Shan Leo ran up and down the street to "fly" his kite! He was really enjoying it!

This is definitely a good exercise for him :D Can you see his tired face after all the running? We are looking forward to a real kite flying experience for Shan Leo. And, I heard there are lots of people who do it somewhere around Bukit Jalil. Will have to check it out!
